Much like our European cousins in the 1880's, the U. S. Army started to adopt spiked pith helmets, often in white, with all brass mounts and occasionally plumes. These were known as the model of 1881. This particular example is from the famous 7th Cavalry Regiment, the same unit of George Armstrong Custer. The helmet is complete with original horsehair plume and correct cavalry yellow cording and lanyard aguilette.
